The 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend has finally come to an end with Team Shaq (The OGs) winning the All-Star Game on Sunday by defeating Team Chuck (International Stars) 41-25. This was an odd game that was repeatedly interrupted by tribute videos, giveaways, and even a mini-comedy special by Kevin Hart. All the extra frills made the action hard to track or keep the players locked in, hurting the entertainment value.
Fans have resoundingly rejected the new All-Star Game format, trashing it incessantly on social media as the game took place. Nobody was talking about the game itself, everyone was just shocked at arguably the worst one in ASW history.
“Worst All-Star ‘Game’ EVER,” said Kevin O’Connor, keeping it simple.
“I’m sorry, these game-disrupting stunts emceed off the top of his head by Kevin Hart are just … painful. Just endless. Just lame and awkward,” said Skip Bayless stunned at the heavy reliance on Kevin Hart for entertainment.
“Oh God. Now it’s the comedy sketch again. F me, man. This used to be one of the best weekends of the sporting calendar. I used to LOVE it. Invite my friends over. Watch the game again. Blow this up. It’s over. Praying NBC fixes this next year,” said longtime NBA fan and reputed MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.
“It’s cool that they’re letting the NBA guys play a little basketball during the breaks of this Kevin Hart special,” said another fan about Kevin Hart’s excessive airtime.
“I honestly thought the NBA All-Star Game couldn’t get any worse. Adam Silver is a legit genius. Finding a way to make the All-Star ‘Game’ literally unwatchable took an incredible amount of foresight and creativity. Bravo,” said one fan who blamed Adam Silver for this.
“Multiple stoppages on a night for a “Mr. Beast” segment and fake award ceremony for the ‘Inside The NBA’ guys this is honestly admirable from Adam Silver,” said one fan who couldn’t believe what the Commissioner created.
“27 minutes of basketball, 1 hour and 13 minutes of Kevin Hart being annoying and unfunny, 30 minutes of Draymond Green telling the rising stars they are worthless, 15 minutes of MrBeast filming a YouTube video, 1 hour of commercials. Nice job Silvuh,” said another critic of Adam Silver.
“This is a perfect microcosm of everything wrong with how the NBA is covered. Fans have complained all night about this broadcast only for them to honor themselves during the game,” said another angry fan.
“I just witnessed commercial breaks that last 10 minutes in between a 20-minute timeout in a first-to-40-game. What has Adam Silver done to the game I love? This is not the NBA,” said another fan.
“Dawg, they’re doing an entire ceremony in the middle of the championship game. I can’t even turn off this mess bc I’m just so shocked at whatever tf this is lol,” said another bamboozled fan.
“It’s impossible to judge the effectiveness of the new All-Star Game format because so much *else* is going on. Any good scientist knows you should change only one variable at a time,” said another fan who can’t objectively say if the new format was good because of all the extra stuff the league added alongside that.
This was a bad night for the NBA, which shouldn’t be the case because it’s a signature night in the regular season. The league over-tinkered with their All-Star Game to avoid a catastrophe like the last two seasons but somehow made it worse.
With stars like LeBron James and Anthony Edwards dropping out due to injury at the last minute, it seems this format wasn’t the most exciting for some stars. Hopefully, we can see a return to tradition next year with a different way to encourage competitiveness on the court.
