Oscar Robertson Roasts Draymond Green: “Game Is Boring To Him Because All He Does Is Pass To Curry”

Draymond Green has been on a roll this All-Star Weekend. He’s been featured on NBA on TNT’s coverage as an analyst, where he’s trashed the NBA’s new format for All-Star Weekend at every chance he’s gotten.

It seems the legendary Oscar Robertson had enough of Draymond’s complaining, tearing into the Golden State Warriors forward on SiriusXM. Robertson mocked Green’s role on the court as someone who exists to pass the ball to Stephen Curry.

“Draymond says so much, who cares what Draymond says? It doesn’t mean anything. One guy can say this, one guy can say that people either like the game or they don’t. I think people enjoy the game, especially if their team can win.”

“It might be boring to him because if he doesn’t pass the ball to (Stephen) Curry, what is he doing? Not to single that out because he knows how to play basketball, but he’s passing the ball to Curry more than anyone I’ve ever seen in basketball. It might be boring to him at times because of what he’s doing, it might be boring. When he’s out there, he’s not shooting a lot, he’s not guarding a lot, so it’s boring.”

Robertson didn’t hold back in his criticism of Draymond, although it’s clear he wasn’t getting too agitated. Given his role in the modern NBA, he probably didn’t respect the kind of criticism Draymond was offering.

Oscar said something many fans are rallying around due to Draymond’s incessant negativity on-air throughout All-Star Weekend. It just hasn’t been a pleasant way to watch the weekend with such a negative voice filling everyone’s screens, so Robertson has said something that is resonating with everyone.

One thing I can’t agree with is that Draymond’s only job on the court is to pass to Stephen Curry. Passing to Curry is probably his most important role, but he’s essentially the entire Warriors’ defense. He might not be a POA defender like he used to be, but he’s still elite on that end and is the man setting up the Warriors’ backline.

Draymond is averaging 8.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists this season. He last made the All-Star Game in 2022, but it doesn’t seem like he’ll be in contention again unless his off-ball impact becomes the best in the NBA on a pure contender. As long as the Warriors are hovering around .500, there’s no way to value Green’s skillset, as it isn’t translating to wins.

Robertson is arguably one of the greatest guards the NBA has ever seen. The original ‘Triple-Double Monster,’ Robertson averaged 25.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 9.5 assists over his career. While Russell Westbrook might have broken his triple-double record with more stars aiming to do so in the coming years, his impact on the game won’t ever be forgotten.
