The NBA Finals are always intense, both teams that make it to the final stage have battled through a grueling regular season, and then intense playoff series, all just to have one shot at the coveted championship. This means tensions are high between the two teams, but not limited to them. Fans are more involved than ever, with Finals games seeing some of the most intense atmospheres the NBA has to offer.
This has already manifested itself during this season’s Finals, considering that Celtics fans haven’t been able to see their legendary team at this stage for a long time. Their well-known passion, which can sometimes get a bit much, coupled with the occasional antics by Draymond Green, was always going to result in something spicy going down.
And it did in Game 3, with Boston fans banding together in their home arena to chant ‘F**k Draymond Green’, which might have been okay for most, but some Warriors fans and Green’s wife weren’t happy about it. As such, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was asked about the issue, but his response made it clear that it’s not something the NBA is too worried about.
“I want fans to enjoy themselves, of course, as the league office you want to see it done with respect for all the participants, but I get it. I love the energy the Boston fans bring to the game.”
This is a very refreshing take from Silver, who is okay with encouraging the banter between fanbases and players, something that makes the NBA exciting for fans as well. Green himself returned the profanity after the chants, and he is likely unbothered by the incident, with his eyes only on improving as much as he can and finding a way to ensure that his team gets their 4th title in 8 seasons.
