While Andrew Wiggins basks in the glory of being an NBA champion, there is a big decision looming not that far in the future. Wiggins was excellent for the Golden State Warriors in their run to another championship, and all eyes now shift toward his future with the team.

This might not have been such a big topic of conversation last year, but Wiggins has now shown what he is capable of and he should only get better in the coming years. The Warriors then have a decision to make on how much he is worth to them. They can give him an extension this summer, but if the two parties don’t come to an agreement, then he would hit free agency in 2023. They already have the highest payroll in the league and have shown that they will splash the cash, but there is also the matter of an extension for Jordan Poole coming up. Wiggins, for his part, is keen to stay as you might expect.

via The Ringer:

“Man, I would love to be here. It’s been nothing but blessings for me here, so that’s something that I would love.”

As for how much it would take to keep him? “I don’t know,” he said with a sheepish grin. “My agents take care of all that.”

Wiggins has earned in excess of $130 million already in his NBA career and he might be willing to take a bit of a discount to stick around. This trade to Golden State has completely changed the narrative around him and Charles Barkley even went as far as to say that Wiggins plays some of the best defense he’s ever seen.

Whatever happens from here on out, Wiggins has shown that he can be a vital contributor to a championship team and if he does have to part ways with the Warriors, then there will be plenty of suitors lining up for his services.
