  • Anthony Edwards has been fined $50,000 for his reckless actions in this past season’s playoffs
  • The incident occurred after Game 5 of the first-round playoff series between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets
  • Edwards was previously fined $40,000 for his anti-gay comments on social media

Anthony Edwards has been slapped with a $50,000 fine after his reckless swing of a chair in the aftermath of Game 5 vs. Denver Nuggets during the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

The NBA released a statement about the guard fined for his actions:

“NBA Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars, announced today that Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been fined $50,000 for recklessly swinging a chair in frustration that struck two bystanders as he exited the court at the conclusion of the Timberwolves’ playoff against the Denver Nuggets on April 25 at Ball Arena.”

It further added:

“In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the league’s review of this matter was deferred until after the criminal investigation into the player’s conduct with charges dismissed last month.”

The NBA TV broadcast appeared to show the incident where he tossed the chair before running into the tunnel, and according to the Denver police department, the chair hit a pair of female security guards.

The Timberwolves had released a statement on Edwards’ actions, per NBA reporter Mark Medina.

“We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information,” it read. “We have no further comment at this moment.”

With the investigation now wrapped up, Edwards faces a fine for his unwarranted actions.

This Isn’t The First Time Anthony Edwards Was Fined By The NBA

For those unaware, this wasn’t the first time Anthony Edwards incurred the wrath of the NBA. The Wolves guard was fined $40,000 on September 20 last year for his offensive language on social media.

Previously, he had recorded a group of men on the sidewalk and could be heard making profane and derogatory comments about what he assumed to be their sexual orientation. The clip went viral and generated massive flak.

Edwards later posted an apology on Twitter soon after, and the Timberwolves issued a statement reprimanding their young star

“What I said was immature, hurtful, and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry. It’s unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way,” Edwards tweeted. “There’s no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than that!”

With this, Edwards already has a second rap for his attitude with the league, and that comes as unfortunate, especially for a player who has a bright future ahead of him.

Now, he will have to work hard and gain the trust of the fans, who have been thoroughly disappointed with his actions.
