- Anthony Edwards says his goals are entirely team-oriented
- Edwards expects Wolves to be 50 win team, KAT to be among MVP candidates
- Edwards promises a better future for the Timberwolves
Young stud Anthony Edwards is projected to be among the next generation of basketball superstars. In Minnesota, he’s been showing flashes of his ridiculous potential, but sadly, his team hasn’t quite matched his energy.
After falling flat in this recent campaign, the Timberwolves are mired in uncertainty as they look for ways to improve their situation. Even still, Edwards continues to keep the pressure on by making bold declarations of next season’s expectations…
“I just have team goals. All the individual stuff will come when you win as a team. We wanna win 50 games this year,” Ant said in an interview with Shams Charania. “We wanna get KAT to an MVP level this year. We want Rudy [Gobert] to be the Defensive Player of the Year. We just want all the things that’s supposed to be. We’re gonna work for it. This year, we’re gonna be a lot better.”

Edwards hasn’t proven anything at the NBA level yet, and the Wolves performed well below expectations last year despite making the big trade for Rudy Gobert. Now, without D’Angelo Russell, the burden will fall on Edwards and his co-star Karl-Anthony Towns to change the narrative in Minnesota and finally help the team achieve some success.
For some, the path to prosperity is clear for Minnesota, but there are still doubts that even Edwards can turn the franchise around.
Are The Wolves Holding Edwards Back?
As a first-time All-Star last season, Ant averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game on 45.9% shooting. He was the lone bright spot for a Timberwolves team that made nothing but wrong steps for months.
The truth is, if the Wolves can’t right the ship and surround Edwards with a championship culture, things could get really ugly when it’s time to extend his contract down the road.
“So he might have to complete his rise to potential superstardom with a different team,” said Wolves star Damjan Rudez. “Minnesota is a historically troubled franchise, plus living there with the cold weather is also a downside that will not attract free agents. But again, Ant has potential, and I believe his charisma is appealing to younger fans.”
To call the Timberwolves a “troubled” franchise is putting it lightly but there is no question that Edwards is the key for them to change their standing. It’s good that he has high expectations for next season but only time will tell if this team can match them as currently constructed.
