Team USA’s Anthony Edwards couldn’t resist a playful jab at his veteran teammates, Steph Curry and LeBron James, after the team’s thrilling comeback win over Serbia in the Olympic semifinals. Edwards took to Instagram to share a series of pictures of the elder statesmen of Team USA, captioning the post:

“Keep some old heads around you.”

The post came before the final game, and as it turns out, the “old heads” once again showed up and led the way as Team USA prevailed against France to secure the gold medal with a 98–87 victory. Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant all played pivotal roles in the win, proving that experience and leadership are invaluable on the international stage.

Curry was phenomenal, leading Team USA with 24 points, including three consecutive 3-pointers that helped clinch the game. He shot 8-14 from the field and 8-13 from beyond the arc, along with 5 assists and 2 steals. LeBron James contributed another impressive double-double, finishing with 14 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds on 6-10 shooting from the field. Kevin Durant also played a key role, adding 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists on 5-12 shooting.

Despite the playful jabs from Edwards, it’s clear that the “old heads” were instrumental in securing Team USA’s fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal. Their experience and skill were on full display, showing that even as they approach the later stages of their careers, they remain among the best in the world.

Anthony Edwards Is The Future Of Team USA

Anthony Edwards is undeniably the future of Team USA. At just 23 years old, he has already established himself as one of the brightest young stars in the NBA and has seamlessly integrated into a squad filled with some of the league’s most legendary figures, including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry.

His chemistry with these veterans has been a highlight of the 2024 Olympics, showcasing his ability to not only fit in but also shine alongside the best.

Winning his first Olympic gold medal at such a young age is a testament to Edwards’ talent, work ethic, and potential. This accomplishment is likely just the beginning of a storied international career, where he could go on to win multiple Olympic medals. With the possibility of participating in at least three more Olympic Games, Edwards has a unique opportunity to break many Team USA records, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players to ever don the red, white, and blue.

As the current generation of stars gradually steps away from the international stage, the responsibility of leading Team USA will inevitably fall on Edwards‘ shoulders. His performance and leadership in Paris have shown that he is more than capable of taking on this role. The future of Team USA is bright, and with Edwards at the helm, the team is poised to continue its dominance on the global stage for years to come.
