LeBron James has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time. The Los Angeles Lakers star entered the league at the age of 18 and immediately established himself as a force to be reckoned with. James, even as a youngster, was a true phenom.

NBA legend Bill Walton spoke about LeBron James in 2005 when the King was just 20 years old.

(Till 0:42 mark)

“LeBron James is there right now. What he’s doing is just so spectacular, but it’s also sad and frustrating. LeBron has everything going for him, the talent. He reminds me so much of Michael Jordan in the early days of his career, playing out there by himself. And his teammates are letting him down right now…”

“You see this guy who is just 20 years old doing things that have never been done before, and everybody else out there is sort of scratching their head saying “what are we doing?”.

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers were two different sides of the same coin during his first run there. He was supremely gifted and played some of the best basketball anyone has ever played. Yet his teammates consistently floundered and didn’t perform up to the level they should.

LeBron Would Leave Cleveland Because They Couldn’t Help

LeBron James carried a mediocre Cavaliers team to the NBA Finals in 2007 but got swept by the San Antonio Spurs because he couldn’t do it on his own. Spurs’ star Robert Horry recently claimed it was the easiest championship he ever won. James would be so disappointed by Cleveland’s inability to attract top players that he would leave and form a super team with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami.

James would eventually return to Cleveland once they had developed young players like Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson and acquired Kevin Love through a trade. James, now experienced in winning and surrounded by better players, would finally bring the Cavaliers the championship he always promised them.
