Bruce Bowen On The Gregg Popovich To Brooklyn Rumors: “There’s More To This Than We Thought.”

2 Min Read

Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs have always seemed inseparable. Having been the head coach of the Spurs since 1996, he has led the franchise to unbridled success that includes a 22-year consecutive playoff appearance streak and five NBA Championships.

But with the streak over, and Pop nearing 75-years-old, there has been talk about a split. Specifically, rumors have hinted about a move to Brooklyn. On ESPN, Bruce Bowen doubled-down on those rumors.

“When I first heard about it four months ago I thought, no it’s no way Pop leaves the confines of San Antonio where he’s built so much and has been able to do so much in this community as well as the organization and the game of basketball.

But as you continue to hear things, you start to understand that maybe there’s more life to this than we thought. I was just coming from a perspective of what I thought but obviously it’s the right thing to do for Sean Marks, being the GM in Brooklyn, going after one of his former coaches.”

Pop is one of the best in business in regards to coaching high-profile names. He has consistently shown the ability to lead the team to post-season appearances and is widely respected around the league by both players and executives.

With Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Nets are already in great position to compete for years to come. With Popovich, you’d be hard-pressed for anyone not to call them the overwhelming favorites.
