The LA Lakers have worked hard to put themselves in a position to compete this season, and they’ve looked pretty good since the NBA’s trade deadline in February. Now, with LeBron and Anthony Davis rolling to the playoffs, many fans and experts are ready to crown them as champions.

FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd, however, isn’t so sure the Lakers can make a deep run this year given how much they rely on their two superstars.

“That was ugly as hell,” said Cowherd after Tuesday’s play-in victory over the Timberwolves. “It was kind of an ugly win and you have to feel good about that… they don’t win this game on the road, they win it at home, they needed overtime. It’s kinda the way they’re gonna have to win, treat every game like a March Madness, one-and-done, play with urgency. Can they beat a good team like Memphis four times? I think they can in the first playoff series, but I don’t think they can extend it to a second playoff series, or a third. I just think you’re asking too much of an old guy and an often hurt guy in Anthony Davis”

The Lakers deserve a lot of credit for their hard work in the second half of the season, but there are some questions about if they’ll have enough gas to carry them past the first round. With LeBron at 38 years old and Anthony Davis being a constant injury concern, it remains to be seen if they will be available and at their best for the entirety of the postseason.

For now, they can only focus on Memphis and try to win the series as quickly as possible.

Anthony Davis Is The X-Factor For The Lakers

At this point, we all know what to expect from LeBron James. Even at this stage of his career, we don’t have to worry about him stepping up to lead his team.

In reality, it’s Anthony Davis who is the biggest wild card, as a single injury to him could derail the team’s title aspirations.

We will see before too long how it all plays out, but the Lakers are not invincible and fans shouldn’t chalk them up as a sure-fire Finals team until AD shows he can stay on the floor.
