Damian Lillard remains a sought-after player in the NBA despite his constant claims that he wants to stay and win on the Portland Trail Blazers.

That hasn’t changed anything around the league, and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith believes Dame would go to New York if he decides to leave the Trail Blazers at some point.

“Damian Lillard is one of the greatest guards to have ever played in NBA history…I have a long and lengthy relationship with Dame, I got a lot of love for him. I practically begged this man to be in New York City, for the New York Knicks. I’d have given anything for him to end in… The New York market, in a New York Knicks uniform… If he were to depart from Portland, the one place he would have wanted to be was (as) a New York Knick,” Smith said on Monday’s edition of First Take.

Despite Dame’s desire to stay with his first and only team in the league, rumors about him don’t stop coming. He recently claimed he’d like to do the same thing Giannis Antetokounmpo did and win a championship for the Blazers, but that looks very unlikely right now.

The Milwaukee Bucks had the chance to pair Giannis with other big players like Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday, which hasn’t been the case for Portland. Still, Dame remains confident that he can do big things at Moda Center.

Damian Lillard Is Firm In His Desire To Win With The Trail Blazers

All the external noise doesn’t matter to Lillard right now, as he has one goal in mind. The veteran point guard believes he can go all the way and win the championship with Portland, even sending a message to doubters who don’t give him his due respect.

Lillard is confident he can get the job done in Portland, but many think it is only a matter of time before he gets tired of losing and demands a trade out of the Trail Blazers, a team that isn’t bad enough to get lottery draft picks or good enough to compete for a top-4 finish in the Western Conference.
