Dwight Howard was part of the 2019-20 Los Angeles Lakers’ championship-winning roster in the Orlando Bubble. Right after winning the title, Howard was allowed to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers by the Lakers.

After just one season with Philly, Howard re-signed with the Lakers for the 2021-22 season. But he was once again let go by the Lakers in the offseason. Since then, Dwight has taken his talents to Taiwan to play for the Taoyuan Leopards. In a recent interview with ‘Complex,’ Howard explained his relationship with the Purple and Gold.

“It’s been crazy,” Howard told Zion Olojede of Complex. “It’s been crazy, but it’s just for some reason we just clicked. I don’t know, you could have a little girlfriend or whatever and it’s just, y’all done been together, y’all done broke up. You done tried other girlfriends but it’s just some type of connection y’all got.”

The future Hall of Famer added: “That’s how we feel about the Lakers. Man, it’s just something that we got this connection. I don’t know. It got to work. It got to work. But I do love the Lakers, man. We had the championship run there, and I wish we would’ve had a chance to keep going because that was the squad right there. We had everything. We had everything.”

Prior to his two recent stints with the Lakers, Howard also played for the organization in the 2012-13 NBA season. The 37-year-old has averaged 10.7 PPG, 8.8 RPG, and 0.9 APG in three seasons for the Lakers.

Thanks to the Lakers, he also won the sole NBA Championship of his career in 2020, which will most likely make him a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Dwight Howard Wanted To Re-Sign With The Lakers After Winning The 2020 Title

Dwight Howard played a crucial role in helping the Lakers win the 2020 Orlando Bubble championship.

Evidently, Dwight was interested in getting back to the team. He was given an offer by the franchise as well. But the iconic organization rescinded it following Howard’s request for 15 minutes to think about it.

Could the Lakers have won another championship with Howard on the roster? We will never know. He was certainly a great fit for that 2020 championship-winning team.
