Michael Jordan dominated the 1990s, meaning all the superstars that came up during the 2000s grew up watching him play. This was doubly true for young players from Chicago, a category in which Dwyane Wade belongs.

Dwyane Wade also played alongside the other GOAT candidate, LeBron James, winning two championships with him on the Miami Heat. But speaking about the debate once, he chose Jordan over LeBron in no uncertain terms.

“LeBron is one of my good friends, I have so much respect for what he’s doing now, what he’s done, and what he will eventually do… It will definitely be an argument that needs to be had,” Wade said. “If LeBron ends up the number scorer of all-time, top five in assists and top five rebounds, with four, five, or six championships, you cannot do nothing but have the conversation of who is the GOAT.

“I come from the Jordan era, so I’m biased,” he said. “Michael Jordan will always be my GOAT… I played basketball because of Michael Jordan… All of us have our own opinions…

“LeBron is going to be the GOAT for a lot of generations… [Jordan] will be my GOAT… I made it out of the hood because I’ve seen a dude, number 23 play the game of basketball at a level where I was like I want to do some of that.”

Dwyane Wade hit the nail on the head with what he said in this interview, everyone has their own opinions about who the greatest of all time is. That does not take away from the legacy of Michael Jordan or LeBron James, both are considered to be the GOAT by different people because they have earned it.

Dwyane Wade Said Future Generations Will Forget Michael Jordan In The GOAT Debate

This is a controversial topic, but Wade has often voiced his opinion on the GOATs being based on generations. And he added to his point of Michael Jordan being his GOAT by claiming that future generations of basketball fans will forget him

“Yes, it does. I mean like, of course. These GOATs, these names that we throw out, it’s not gonna just be a lot of those players. But the game continues to keep moving forward. And so we are gonna continue to see things that we have never seen before. And the eyes are gonna get younger and younger.”

“We are not going to have a conversation about the GOATs. Now it’s going to be the younger, younger, younger generation. And they’re gonna forget about Jordan as we forget about Kareem.”

While LeBron James does have a case, he’s not surpassed Michael Jordan in any objective metrics. So MJ’s name and legacy might last a bit longer than Wade expects. But his larger point holds, who the GOAT is depends on who is answering the question, and eventually, even Michael Jordan’s name may lose its luster.
