Former NBA star Evan Turner was on X making jokes amidst Team USA’s game against Serbia. While Team USA struggled against Serbia, at one point being down by 15 points, Evan Turner was trying to jinx his way out of a Team USA loss, joking that he would name his first son after Nikola Jokic and Bogdan Bogdanovic if Serbia won.

“If Team USA loses then I’ll name my first son Nikola Bogdanovic Turner.”

After Team USA pulled off the miraculous comeback, Evan Turner responded to a fan saying that his son was thankfully spared. But Turner jokingly responded that Team USA were lucky they weren’t playing against the former Yugoslavia.

“I’m just glad we played Serbia and not Yugoslavia.”

The former Yugoslavia included the nations now known as Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Macedonia. If a Yugoslavian team would play in the Olympics today, it would feature Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic, two of the best players in the world, who have certainly caused Team USA more problems than they had against Serbia alone yesterday.

Team USA pulled off a miraculous victory over Serbia in the dying moments of the game. After trailing for almost the entire game, Stephen Curry helped Team USA rally in the fourth quarter to erase the deficit and take the lead to seal the win in the last few minutes of the game.

Kevin Durant spoke after the game, noting that it was a victory that no one on the team would soon forget. Whereas Steve Kerr said that it was one of the greatest games he has ever been a part of in his long coaching career.

Serbia Not Happy With The Officiating

Needless to say, the Serbian team was not thrilled about the loss. Serbia Head Coach Svetislav Pesic was furious about how the referees treated him and his players, going off on them in a post-game interview. Right behind him was Bogdan Bogdanovic, who slammed the referees for showing preferential treatment to Team USA.

Serbia have every right to be frustrated with their loss to Team USA. To come so close to usurping the reigning gold medalists, only to lose the game in the final few minutes of the game is extremely disheartening. For context, Serbia led the game for over 35 minutes of the 40-minute game, whereas Team USA led for just over 3 minutes.

They will not have long to mourn and be upset, as they must focus on their bronze medal game. Serbia will face Germany in their bronze medal game. Having to defeat the reigning FIBA World Champions will be no easy task. But Serbia will take confidence from their incredible showing against Team USA into their bronze medal game.

For Team USA, their focus will strictly be on France, as they take them on in the gold medal game. Facing the host nation on Saturday, Team USA will look to shut down Victor Wembanyama en route to winning their fifth consecutive gold medal.
