Stephen Curry dominated the gold medal game at the Paris Olympics, putting up 24 points as Team USA won their fifth consecutive men’s 5×5 basketball gold over France in their home country. On the French broadcast, Curry’s four threes in the fourth quarter were devastating to the announcer, who referred to Curry as a devil while giving us an iconic commentary moment.

It’s clear the French announcer didn’t call Curry a devil with malice, but it was the perfect way to capture what many French fans probably thought as Curry’s ridiculous shotmaking made it impossible for France to catch the USA as they slumped to a 87-98 loss.

Steph put up 24 points in the win, all coming through the eight 3-pointers he drained in this game. He went 8-12 from distance while attempting only one 2-point field goal, which was a miss. His sensational play in both the semi-final and the final ensured the USA walked out with Gold and helped Curry become the team’s top-scorer despite averaging under 8 points through the first four games of the Olympics.

He ended the Olympics with an average of 14.8 points on 47.8% from three, narrowly missing out on the Olympics MVP to LeBron James, who had 14 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists in the gold medal game.

Stephon Marbury Said Stephen Curry Deserved Olympic MVP

Even though LeBronn and Curry have had a month where they got to bond after spending years in a rivalry against each other, some are still trying to sow seeds of discontent between the pair. Stephon Marbury was in attendance for Curry’s wonderful performance in the gold medal game, which led him to proclaim that Curry should have won Olympic MVP over LeBron.

“They gave the MVP to the wrong player. Maybe they called out the wrong name by accident. I think we need to try to rewind the moment when @stephencurry30 displayed himself as the best shooter who ever touched the ball. In international ball, if you can’t shoot, you can’t have the ball at the end of the game.”

“I get LeBron is the King to many, but let me say this: when you give him what he doesn’t deserve, you basically say that because of what he’s done, he should receive such a high honor on the biggest stage. No, he didn’t earn it this time.”

LeBron averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists at the Olympics, leading the USA as their playmaker throughout the tournament while playing the most minutes. Curry was unquestionably better in the final two games, though James held up his end of the bargain with his performances as well.

If we’re judging the totality of the tournament, it has to be LeBron without question. But if it’s similar to the NCAA and we’re looking at the best players of the Final Four, it’s clearly Curry who deserves this honor. But the Olympics reward the best on aggregate from the entire tournament, and it’s hard to argue James deserves it given the slow start Curry had.
