• Giannis Antetokounmpo is allegedly not interested in joining a big market franchise if he has to leave the Milwaukee Bucks

• A report suggests teams like the Spurs, Raptors, and Thunder could be in the race to get Giannis

• Giannis has already been linked to the Lakers and Knicks

Giannis Antetokounmpo could be the next big free agent to hit the market. He will not be signing a contract extension this summer and could test free agency in 2025. The Knicks and Lakers emerged as early favorites to land Giannis, but a report suggests that Antetokounmpo could be interested in teams like the Raptors, Spurs, and the Thunder.

“The ever-rebuilding Thunder, for example, are sitting on a pile of talent… Two other dark horses are out there, too: San Antonio and Toronto.”

There are plausible reasons behind why Giannis would look at those three teams if given the choice. They all have certain elements that would excite Giannis while also giving him the chance to be the winning piece that elevates these teams into championship contention.

Why Would Giannis Antetokounmpo Look At These Teams?

The Raptors and Giannis have a history, given the positive relationship Giannis shares with President Masai Ujiri. The Raptors were expected to go after Giannis if he hadn’t signed an extension with the Bucks in 2022. With an impending rebuild of the franchise, Giannis could be interested in a frontcourt pairing with Scottie Barnes.

The Spurs have Victor Wembanyama and one of the best reputations in the NBA. Taking the Spurs back to winning titles will help solidify Giannis’ status as one of the modern greats who could lead multiple championship-winning teams.

The Thunder may be the best option. Not only do they have the assets to make a trade for Giannis due to their years of draft capital hoarding and excellent player development, they also have complementary stars waiting. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Giannis would terrorize the NBA and bring OKC back to championship conversations.
