It’s been a tough 24 hours for the Los Angeles Lakers as the hope and joy from the first major trade of the winter quickly dissipated into worries for the future after the team’s performance last night. They lost 133-115 to the Los Angeles Clippers and saw a lot of drama take place.
LeBron was excellent, dropping 46 points in just 32 minutes while also having a career-high 9 made threes. After he was subbed off with 6 minutes left in the fourth, LeBron looked on with a face of exhaustion and frustration as he saw a controversial play by Russell Westbrook lead to a turnover and a quick 8-0 run for the Clippers.
Fans are not happy to see LeBron in this state, sympathizing with his struggles after watching his teammates completely fall apart.
Rui Hachimura and Anthony Davis being available for the Lakers’ second game of a back-to-back against the San Antonio Spurs should give the team a much-needed boost. It’s about time the Lakers go on an extended season turnaround to get above .500.
Are There Trades On The Horizon?
Rob Pelinka openly said that the Lakers are going to remain active in finding deals until the trade deadline. However, it seems the team will not include first-round picks until it’s a significant enough move to make the roster title contenders. Looking at the market, that move isn’t necessarily available.
The bargain bin may get the Lakers a few more complementary role-players, with the wing being their most pressing need. If they can find the right moves for their 4 remaining second-round picks, they actually may have a legitimate chance at making the playoffs. Contention might be a bridge too far unless it’s a major trade involving those first-round picks.
