• Jaren Jackson Jr. has been voted as the best player in the Team USA training camp for the 2023 FIBA World Cup

• Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson, and Tyrese Haliburton were also in the mix

• JJJ provides Team USA with the interior presence they’ve lacked in international play

There are incredibly high hopes from the Team USA roster at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, as the nation looks to avenge a terrible seventh-place finish in the tournament the last time it took place.

Players on the roster are working hard at proving their worth to national team selectors, with Jaren Jackson Jr. emerging as an early standout. The Athletic asked Team USA players who the best player was during training camp, with JJJ emerging as the majority choice for the group.

“By a vote of his peers, Jaren Jackson Jr. was selected the “best,” or “most impressive” or “stand out” player of the now-completed FIBA training camp, according to an informal poll of the entire Team USA roster.”

Jackson is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and has led the league in blocks for two consecutive seasons. He’s likely going to be the team’s starting center due and will hope to match up with the veteran centers around the tournament.

Can Team USA Win Gold?

Team USA is never competing for anything less than the Gold medal in competitions and is the early favorite to win the tournament. With the likes of Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama not lacing up for the tournament and Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s status being unclear, Team USA won’t have many star opponents to overcome.

Luka Doncic’s Slovenia will be a threat, but the overall roster isn’t nearly as strong as USA’s. This leaves traditional European powers such as Spain, France, and Germany as major contenders, along with Australia and Argentina.

Team USA should be able to rely on its cast of multiple All-Stars and young players to make a strong impression and possibly be included in the 2024 Olympic squad.
