• Utah Jazz assistant coach Jason Terry is being sued for not paying $25,000 for a Rolex
• New York-based jeweler Eric Mavachev claims Terry rented a Rolex and offered to buy it instead of returning it
• Mavachev has been unable to recoup the payment and has sued Terry for breach of contract
Utah Jazz assistant coach and former NBA Champion Jason Terry has been sued by a New York-based jeweler, Eric Mavachev, for not paying $25,000 for a Rolex.
The watch is a 23.5-carat stainless steel customized Rolex that Terry rented during Summer League this year. Terry offered to purchase it instead of returning it after the rental. The payment hasn’t been made since July and Mavachev has moved with a lawsuit.
Terry made $106 million over the course of a 19-year career in the NBA. It’s likely this situation gets cleared up between the player and the jeweler before anything actually moves to court. As an assistant coach in the NBA right now, it’s unlikely Terry will be struggling to clear this situation out with Mavachev.
What Happened Between Jason Terry And Eric Mavachev?
According to the lawsuit filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, Terry rented a 23.5-carat stainless steel customized Rolex from Mavachev to wear at an appearance at Drai’s nightclub in Las Vegas during Summer League.
Mavachev, who has a clientele of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather, and Snoop Dogg, agreed to sell the watch to Terry for $25,000 after the 2011 champion expressed a desire to keep it after the rental. Terry accepted the offer and claimed he would send the payment by July 13. Mavachev never received the wire transfer and has been unable to contact Terry since.
The jeweler is still waiting for his payment and hasn’t been able to get the watch back either, leaving him with no choice but to proceed with a lawsuit. Hopefully, this at least forces Terry to speak to Mavachev and sort this out behind the scenes.
Jason Terry Is An Underrated NBA Legend
His actions in this situation can’t be condoned, as he has an obligation to pay what he owes to Mavachev. Regardless of what happens there, Terry will remain highly respected in NBA circles for his contribution to the league.
He was a key contributor to the Dallas Mavericks when they won the 2011 Championship. He had an on-court rivalry with LeBron James in that Finals series and was one of the factors behind delaying James’ championship coronation by one season. James would have the last laugh though, putting Terry on the wrong end of one of the greatest dunks in NBA history during his time on the Celtics.
Terry averaged 13.4 points, 3.8 assists. and 2.3 rebounds in a 19-year NBA career. He played for the Hawks, Mavericks, Celtics, Nets, Rockets, and retired from the Bucks in 2018. The 2009 Sixth Man of the Year is eighth in the all-time three-pointers made list with 2,282 made shots, being one of the premier high-volume shooters of the 2000s.
