Jayson Tatum Reacts To The Uvalde Shooting: “When He Turned 18, The First Thing He Did Was Buy A Handgun And An Assault Rifle. That Just Doesn’t Sound Like Something That You Should Be Able To Do.”

The U.S. and the world were shocked after yet another school shooting took place. This time, it happened in Uvalde, Texas, where an 18-year-old boy starred in another terrifying situation, killing 21 people, including 19 kids.

The news was heartbreaking, and the NBA world wasn’t indifferent to that. Everybody had something to say about it, especially Steve Kerr, who has been very vocal against gun violence. The Golden State Warriors head coach went on a passionate rant, asking authorities to make some real changes instead of saying the same thing over and over again.

LeBron James and Stephen Curry also called for action, while showing their support to the families of the victims of this tragic event. They’re not the only ones raising their voices against it, as Jayson Tatum also had some things to say. The Boston Celtics get ready to face the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the ECF, but JT didn’t forget about all the victims of this shooting and sent a big message while talking to reporters.

Via Celtics Wire:

“What happened yesterday in Texas was devastating,” he continued.

“Obviously, a lot of people have been on record the last 24 hours, talking about how it is sad how it’s becoming something we’re getting numb to. It truly is — what happened yesterday was sickening. And obviously, everybody sends their prayers and condolences to the families of those kids. But at some point, that does get tiring of going through the same process and the same results keep happening over and over again. I’m no politician, but I heard yesterday that (the alleged shooter), when he turned 18, the first thing that he did was buy a handgun and an assault rifle. If you don’t know anything about law, that just doesn’t sound like something you should be able to do.”

Tatum stated that he doesn’t have all the answers, but it’s pretty clear that something must change if we really want to prevent these events:

“I’m a basketball player, I don’t have all the answers, but something does have to change in that regard,” Tatum added. “Because things like this continue to happen.”

Just like the veterans and everybody around the league, Tatum wants to see real action regarding these situations. In the past couple of weeks, we’ve seen many episodes of violence in public places and people have been calling for action. It’s unfair that many kids had such a terrible end, but now it’s time to make a real change and hopefully, NBA players and other celebrities raising their voices against gun violence could make some impact on it.
