The Golden State Warriors may clinch the crown as the 2022 NBA Champions as early as today if they can win Game 6 against the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden. The series’ momentum has swung the way of the Warriors after their Game 5 win, but Boston is yet to lose in an elimination game this post-season.
If the Warriors win the title, all eyes will be on the post-game awards ceremony to see whether Stephen Curry will finally get his due respect and be awarded Finals MVP for leading the Warriors to this title.
Curry and his lack of Finals MVPs have been a narrative that has followed him through his career, but former teammate Jeremy Lin believes that Steph had proven everything he needed to in previous seasons with his MVP awards and championships before saying that nobody believes that Iguodala was more important to the 2015 Warriors than Steph.
Before Game 6, let me explain why Steph does NOT need a Finals MVP to validate his career. In fact, I'm so confused as to why this is even a conversation lol. But here are my top 2 reasons:

2. Iggy got the 2015 NBA FMVP, bc he overexceeded the bar set for him. True, w/o Iggy, GSW dont win that chip. But w/o Steph, GSW gets swept. No disrespect to Iggy, but imo no one will ever truly believe Iggy was more valuable to GSW than Steph was in that first championship.

If the Warriors win Game 6, it can be almost certain that Curry will be Finals MVP. The two situations where Curry doesn’t win the award are if Boston makes a comeback or if Andrew Wiggins has two 50-point games in Game 6 and 7, with the Warriors losing Game 6.
Jeremy Lin was on the team that denied Curry a chance to win his last title in 2019, with Lin playing a crucial role against his hometown team during his stint with the Toronto Raptors, which made him a champion.
Curry’s moment in the sun is long overdue and everyone will be rooting to see him get the one trophy that many people look at as the most valuable individual trophy in the league. Everybody wants a Finals MVP or a regular-season MVP and Curry will be looking to secure his first individual trophy for the NBA Finals.
