- Tyronn Lue shared good news about Kawhi Leonard and Paul George
- Both stars suffered injuries that played a part in their first-round playoff exit
- James Harden to the Clippers will ease the load on the two superstars
LA Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue expressed optimism when talking about the availability of his team’s two stars, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Lue shared his thoughts about Leonard and George with Frank Isola and Brian Scalabrine.
“We expect him to be ready by training camp,” Lue said about Leonard. “He will be 100 percent by the time training camp hits and we just gotta be ready for when training camp hits with our medical staff, we just make sure we are doing the right things as far as practices and games and making sure the minutes are right. The same thing with PG. When those two guys play, we’re an amazing team.”

For those who have followed the Leonard-George era of the Clippers, this comes as ho-hum news, especially after how the team has heavily relied on these two players to get them through to the next level. Injuries to both these players often have seen the team’s chances dwindle, and it was the same story this season as well.
While George had a setback in the final leg of the regular season, Leonard went down in the first round of the playoffs against the Phoenix Suns, leaving a lot for Russell Westbrook to do. As a result, what started as a positive campaign again ended in disappointment for the Clippers.
Tyronn Lue Admits To Being Frustrated With The LA Clippers Run
The Clippers have made the playoffs four times in the last five seasons, but have never made the NBA Finals. This surely comes as frustrating when they fail to get across the line. And Lue, on the radio show, expressed his disappointment.
“We know we have a lot of talent, we know we have a chance to win,” Lue continued. “Lawrence Frank, Mark Hughes, Trent Redden, and Mr. Ballmer put together a great team, a great roster. We just haven’t been able to see that finished product at the end of the season. That’s what’s frustrating, but don’t think these guys don’t want to play or they don’t want to compete.”
This past season, Leonard averaged 23.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists from 52 regular season games. Geoge recorded 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.5 assists from 56 games. And the fact that they have stacked numbers shows the damage that the duo can cause when they are healthy.
Will James Harden To The LA Clippers Ease The Burden On Kawhi Leonard And Paul George?
If James Harden indeed manages to sign a deal with the LA Clippers — a team that he has his sights on, the unit becomes unbeatable, especially if Leonard and George manage to stay healthy for more than 60 games.
With James as the playmaker, the offense is further bolstered, while the defense can lock up even the best of the opponents with consummate ease. The route to landing Harden will mean LA sacrificing some assets, but given their win-now situation, it’s not entirely surprising that the front office might pull the trigger on a blockbuster trade.
It was previously reported that Harden was in talks with both the Clippers stars, and all of them appeared to be “on the same page.” Now whether that would mean discussing a strategy or planning something for the longer term, only time will tell.
Harden joining the Clippers will surely make them a powerhouse. And it will ensure that Leonard and George’s workload can be monitored accordingly. What matters is whether the four of them can translate that into a trophy.
