Kevin Durant celebrated his gold medal in the best way he knows; taking to social media to respond to the critics and the haters. He posted a picture of Team USA with their gold medals with the caption claiming they played intelligent and entertaining basketball, a direct shot at Dennis Schroder’s comments about European basketball.

Schroder’s initial comments came during a press conference in the wake of Germany’s game against Serbia, where the reigning FIBA World Champions lost the bronze medal game. He noted that the European game is all substance, no style, which is why so many American players struggle with it because they are used to the opposite in the NBA.

“European basketball is no entertainment, it’s straight IQ basketball. Straight coaching. And really high-IQ guys who know how to play the game. Serbia, Greece, Spain, France, Germany.”

“It’s so many teams out there who know how to play, who are athletic, and there are a lot of people from Europe in the NBA who make some noise. Slovenia with Luka Doncic, one of the best players in the world. Of course, the USA is one of the best leagues in the world or is the best league in the world. Europeans, they’re coming (up) for sure.”

Dennis Schroder on why European basketball style provides a significant advantage to challenge Team USA:

Dennis Schroder’s comments clearly didn’t sit well with Kevin Durant, who consistently advocates for the quality of basketball played not just in the NBA, but in Team USA as well, So it is unsurprising that Durant decided to take a jab at Schroder for these words.

KD always defends his fellow players, especially when they are attacked or slighted by an outside presence. Last year, after Noah Lyles made his infamous ‘world champions’ comment, Durant was one of the first players to push back on what he was saying, calling him out publically for his words.

Kevin Durant Made A Massive Impact For Team USA

Kevin Durant had a solid performance against France in the gold medal game. Durant registered a double-digit scoring night, with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and picked up 1 steal and 1 block each. It was a great showing from KD in what was his first start with Team USA since the Olympics started.

Durant has also been active on social media during his time in Paris. After Team USA’s win over Serbia, KD called out Nuggets fans who were rooting against Team USA despite being American due to their loyalty to Nikola Jokic. KD was clearly unhappy with the American fans turning their back on Team USA for their franchise star.

Durant didn’t even let sleep get in the way of his social media shenanigans, as he was up till 5 A.M. destroying fans on social media for questioning his work ethic and play at the Olympics. Not that he would have needed any, but this gold medal will be even further vindicating considering the slander he felt he was subjected to during this tournament.
