- Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested for beating up and choking his girlfriend
- This was not the first incident involving Porter Jr. and the law
- Porter Jr. could be out of the league after this terrible incident
Kevin Porter Jr. is the talk of the NBA world, and not in a good way. Porter Jr. has recently been accused of choking his girlfriend, WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, leaving her with serious injuries.
- January 2019: Suspended By USC For One Game Due To Misconduct Issues
- August 2020: Accused Of Assaulting A Woman
- November 2020: Arrested For Possessing A Loaded Gun, Marijuana Charges
- January 2021: Verbal Altercation With Cavs GM
- 2021: Broke DJ’s Laptop
- April 2021: Violated The NBA’s COVID-19 Health And Safety Rules
- January 2022: Locker Room Issue; Left Game At Halftime
- September 2023: Arrested For Assault And Strangulation
Gondrezick has reportedly suffered a facial cut and a fractured vertebra in her neck. This was likely caused by being choked by Porter Jr.
To make things worse, Porter Jr. Reportedly didn’t stop hitting Gondrezick until she was covered in blood. This situation apparently wasn’t the first time Porter Jr. had put his hands on Gondrezick. He has a disturbing history of domestic violence.
“Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Mirah Curzer said Porter has a history of abusing Gondrezick, including an incident in which he rammed his car into hers,” wrote ABC Houston.
Porter Jr. has been officially charged with assault and strangulation. He was released on $75,000 bail. Porter Jr. has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
DISCLAIMER: This is dark.
It wasn't that long ago when Kevin Porter Jr. was getting his life together.
He was traded by the Cavs and fell into the aftermath of James Harden in Houston. Somehow, KPJ got the miraculous opportunity of becoming the Rockets' new point guard.

The NBA is currently investigating the incident, and disciplinary action will likely follow once the NBA finishes the investigation. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently gave his first statement on the issue:
“Yes, the allegations here are horrific,” Silver said. “No question about it. But I don’t know any more about the actual facts other than reading those allegations.”
As disturbing as this incident is for Porter Jr., this is nowhere near the first time he has run into trouble with the NBA or the law. In fact, he’s been in trouble quite a few times, which we will chronicle here in this article.
January 2019: Suspended By USC For One Game Due To Misconduct Issues
Before Porter Jr. ever stepped foot onto an NBA floor, he was already finding himself in trouble. Porter Jr. went to USC and, as a freshman, was suspended for one game due to “misconduct issues.”

The reason was never given, as it was announced as an undisclosed altercation with the management. This would be an insight into the future, as Porter Jr. would have many more incidents within a team setting.
Porter Jr. would return to the team after serving his one-game suspension. A few months later, he declared for the 2019 NBA Draft.
August 2020: Accused Of Assaulting A Woman
The first incident involving the law occurred in August 2020. Porter Jr. was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers at the time and looked to be ready to start his second season in the NBA.
Then, in the summer before the 2020-21, Porter Jr. was accused of punching a woman in the face while also pulling her hair.

This incident was investigated by the police, and eventually no charges were filed against Porter Jr. Still, it was another negative situation the young NBA player found himself in.
Many started to wonder if Porter Jr. had the capacity to stay out of trouble and just focus on playing basketball. Just a few months after the alleged assault incident, Porter Jr. found himself in more trouble, proving he could not keep his mind on basketball.
November 2020: Arrested For Possessing A Loaded Gun, Marijuana Charges
Porter Jr. could only stay out of trouble for three months, as he would be arrested in November 2020. This time, Porter Jr. would be involved in a car accident.
After getting in the accident, police, as routine, entered the scene. This is when they first found a loaded gun, along with a small amount of marijuana.
Firearm and minor marijuana charges against Cavs' Kevin Porter Jr. stemming from a car accident last month have been dismissed, lawyer Alex Spiro tells ESPN.

On top of these charges, Porter Jr. was also charged with driving without a license. With all this drama surrounding Porter Jr., his team, the Cavaliers, decided not to play him in their games.
All of the charges were eventually dropped against Porter Jr., and yet another incident was added to his ever-growing book of troublesome behavior. Would things get better for Porter Jr.?
January 2021: Verbal Altercation With Cavs GM
Things would not get better for Porter Jr., as the next problem involving the young star, luckily, wasn’t anything illegal, but it was a team issue. After the Cavs acquired Taurean Prince, Cavs GM Koby Altman gave Prince Porter Jr.’s locker.

This didn’t sit well with Porter Jr. He reportedly threw food at Altman while screaming at him.
“Sources said Porter, whose locker was moved to the wall where the younger, end-of-bench players reside, began yelling and at one point threw food,” per The Athletic.
“Sources said general manager Koby Altman came into the locker room and confronted Porter, and the player remained combative with his boss. The Cavs spent the weekend trying to trade him.
“Coach J.B. Bickerstaff heard the commotion in the locker room from his office and came in, shocked and disgusted by what he heard.”
This incident was enough for the Cavs as they eventually traded him to the Houston Rockets on January 21, 2021. The trade occurred just three days after the locker room incident.
Now, on a new team, Porter Jr. had the chance to start fresh and turn his career around. This, of course, would not happen.
2021: Broke DJ’s Laptop
The next incident for Porter Jr. was his first on the Rockets. The exact date was not released, and the story is relatively new.
Apparently, the Rockets held a team gathering at a local club. Sometime during the event, Porter Jr. got into a heated argument with the DJ and damaged the DJ’s laptop.
This is such a wild story, as it seems unreal that a person would get so upset at a DJ that they’d break their equipment. But as we are learning, Porter Jr. has an anger problem.
An event like this was supposed to bring the team together. This helps the players grow on and off the court, making the game easier for all.
When a player does what Porter Jr. had done, it has the opposite effect. This is exactly why Cleveland didn’t want him any longer. So, why did Porter Jr. destroy a DJ’s laptop?
“They were out at a club apparently, and there was a disagreement, I guess, with the DJ in the club, and KPJ took the laptop of said DJ and smashed it on the floor. Just completely destroyed it and started tearing the place up, and the Rockets, they immediately got him out of there,” Houston Rockets reporter Jackson Gatlin said.
Porter Jr.’s problems were starting to get out of hand at this point. When a player continues to act out, it’s a sign of immaturity. In 2021, Porter Jr. was only 21 years old. So, maybe he’ll grow out of this phase. Right?
April 2021: Violated The NBA’s COVID-19 Health And Safety Rules
When COVID-19, it changed the entire world. This includes the NBA. One rule by the NBA during that troublesome time was players couldn’t go out to clubs.
In April 2021, Porter Jr. ignored these rules, proving he had not grown out of his immature phase. The Rockets young star went to a strip club in Miami. This resulted in a $50,000 fine for Porter Jr. for violating the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety rules.

The NBA’s rules stated players couldn’t be indoors with a gathering of 15 or more people. The club Porter Jr. attended clearly had more than 15 attendees.
This may seem like not a huge deal, but for Porter Jr. and his past issues, he couldn’t afford this. It went beyond the fine. It hurt his already fragile reputation.
January 2022: Locker Room Issue; Left Game At Halftime
Kevin Porter Jr. found himself in more locker-room drama, this time as a member of the Houston Rockets. It was a game on January 1, 2022, against the Denver Nuggets.
The Rockets lost 124-111 to the Nuggets, and part of their problem was Porter Jr. refused to play in the second half. What happened was Porter Jr., along with Christian Wood, were initially benched for missing the team’s mandatory COVID-19 testing window.
At halftime, Rockets’ assistant coach, John Lucas, got on Porter Jr. for his play, as well as Wood’s effort level. This didn’t sit well with Porter Jr. and Wood.
The two players got into a heated argument with Lucas, and Porter Jr. allegedly threw an object at Lucas, and he had to be separated from his assistant coach. After this, Porter Jr. left the arena, while Wood refused to enter the game in the second half.
It’s baffling to hear that a professional athlete would get so upset at a coach that they’d leave the arena and refuse to play. This type of attitude will see Porter Jr. out of the league in no time.
Porter Jr.’s attitude started to be a problem for his team. Some wondered if having Porter Jr. on the roster was worth it. There’s no denying the talent Porter Jr. has, but if he keeps bringing drama into the locker room, maybe cutting him loose, as the Cavs did, would be the best scenario for the Rockets.
September 2023: Arrested For Assault And Strangulation
Things appeared to be going better for Porter Jr. until this most recent incident involving his girlfriend gained national attention. Yes, the assault by Porter Jr. on Kysre Gondrezick is the worst of Porter Jr.’s issues so far.
As the days go by, more details will come out about this terrible issue. We’ll also learn what will happen to Porter Jr. when it comes to the law.
Also, we will soon find out what the NBA decides to do with Porter Jr. By the end of all this, Porter Jr. could be out of the NBA. After everything Porter Jr. has done, maybe that’s the best option for him and the NBA.
As of now, the Rockets can not waive him due to league rules. This was recently reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski:
“The league has launched an investigation, and they will handle it in the near term. The Rockets, by the by-laws, can’t suspend or waive him while this investigation is going on. But Adam Silver could put Porter on administrative leave.
“There’s no question that Kevin Porter Jr.’s future, not just with the Rockets but in the NBA, is very much in peril. These are extremely serious allegations.”
The Rockets may not be able to waive Porter Jr., but reports have come out stating Houston has placed Porter Jr. on the trading block. So, the disgruntled star’s time in Houston is likely over.
In reality, the wellness of Kysre Gondrezick should come first. Next, Porter Jr.’s criminal case is a top priority. After these two problems are resolved, the question about Porter Jr.’s NBA future should be discussed.
As reports stated, Porter Jr.’s future in the NBA is certainly in peril.
