Klay Thompson Says Warriors Can Still Win A Title Without Kevin Durant

In the latest installment of ‘How Hungry Are You?’ NBA veteran big man Serge Ibaka sat down with Warriors star Klay Thompson for some good food and casual conversation.

During several moments, Thompson found himself reflecting on the past; his Championships in Golden State and his two-year battle to return to the court.

But he also looked ahead.

During one exchange with Ibaka, Klay talked about winning and his unsurprising goal to capture more Championships. Moreover, he explained how, even without Kevin Durant, he believes the Dubs are capable of bringing home another title.

“Lucky for us, we still have the core of a Championship team from the past, being me, Steph, and Draymond. Won a lot of games together, we got some great pieces. I’m excited to play with Andrew Wiggins, I think he is an incredibly talented player. And then we got these young guys who I think we can rely on a lot. I really like our team.”

He also joked that his team’s success in NBA 2K is proof of their potential.

“Serge, I’m never gonna doubt us. I played a lot of 2K this past year, that’s how I get my fix in for basketball. There’s a lot of similarities and I’m getting wins with the same roster. I’m just going to transfer that into real life.”

While Kevin Durant was, objectively, a huge loss for the Warriors, there is no reason to believe they are incapable of going all the way.

They have Andrew Wiggins, a powerful young wing who can score with ease. They have Jordan Poole, who has emerged as one of the best shooters in the game. They have Nemanja Bjelica, who has been a perfect fit from the start.

Most importantly, they have Klay Thomson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green, who won the title without Kevin Durant back in 2015, and who followed it up by winning 73 games the next season.

At 50-28, they have looked solid all season long and have been competitive against the NBA’s other elite squads.

So, as much bias as Thompson has, his faith isn’t completely blind. The Warriors have already been there and done that, and there’s no reason to think they can’t do it again.
