The Dallas Mavericks acquired Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets via a blockbuster trade in order to form a dynamic duo with Luka Doncic and dominate the Western Conference.
Since Kyrie Irving’s arrival, the Mavs have shockingly become one of the worst teams in the West. Keeping that in mind, NBA analyst Craig Carton believes Kyrie’s career in the NBA is over after the current season with the Dallas Mavericks.
“After this season, Kyrie Irving will no longer be an NBA basketball player,” Carton said. “He’s done. There’s not a single team in basketball that will make an offer for Kyrie Irving. Because every team in basketball now knows that as great a player as he is and I’ve said this on the show a million times. I believe talent alone; he’s one of the 25 greatest players to ever play basketball in the NBA or anywhere else on this planet. It’s a wrap when the Dallas Mavericks do not get into the playoffs this year.”

As Carton mentioned, there is no doubt about Kyrie Irving’s skills as a basketball player. But throughout his career, Kai has proved time and time again that he is simply not a good team player.
Many believe that Kyrie is one of the reasons behind Luka Doncic‘s recent admission about being frustrated with the Mavericks. Ultimately, whether Carton is proven right or not, we will find out when Irving becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Kyrie Irving To The Los Angeles Lakers?
The Dallas Mavericks currently have a 37-39 record and are the 11th seed in the Western Conference. As things stand now, the Mavericks are missing the playoffs and the play-in tournament.
Considering that, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Irving decides to test the free agency this summer. Irving has been constantly linked with the Los Angeles Lakers and reuniting with LeBron James.
But after a busy NBA trade deadline, the current rumors suggest that the Lakers have stopped their pursuit of landing Kyrie Irving. The Lakers currently have a good roster, and adding a player like Irving could ruin the chemistry between the current players.
On top of that, the Lakers will need to lose five of their current players to even have a shot at signing Irving. The cons seem to outweigh the pros, so don’t be surprised if Irving re-signs with the Mavericks this summer. Even if he wants to join another team, it most likely will not be the Purple and Gold.
