At 38 years old, we all knew that durability was going to be a problem for LeBron James this season. All-in-all, he’s done pretty well considering the circumstances and has managed only to miss a handful of games all season.

Monday’s showdown against the Brooklyn Nets is one of those games, and both James and Davis were ruled out before the day even started.

But in the hours before tip-off, Lakers coach Darvin Ham admitted that James’ ankle was worse than expected and the soreness in his ankle was significant.

Darvin Ham said LeBron is experiencing “some really significant soreness” in his left foot that the Lakers want to get under control. Anthony Davis’ absence was planned because the medical staff doesn’t want him playing back-to-backs at this point in his ramp-up.

Every game is a must-win for the Lakers, who are trying to make the playoffs this season after starting 2-10. Not having LeBron tonight obviously hurts them, but it’s something they’ll have to grow more and more accustomed to as LeBron gets older.

LeBron James Is Breaking The Rules Of Ageing

LeBron’s durability has taken a hit, but it’s still amazing what he’s been able to do this season at almost 40 years old. For a Lakers team that looked dead on arrival a few months ago, James has pulled them back from the brink to put the Lakers into playoff contention.

Meanwhile, he’s averaging over 30 points per game.

“The longevity is inspiring, you look up and you still see 30 points a night at 38 years old, still making plays on both ends of the floor, man that’s truly inspirational,” said Kevin Durant. “Running up the court fast, he’s still explosive. He’s inspiring, he is setting the bar for what an athlete wants to be. Not everybody can do this. This is like the greatest that you can get. Especially in our era of basketball to have somebody that accomplished something like that, is inspiring to see. It is going to set the precedent for basketball players for a long time.”

Needless to say, the entire NBA has taken notice of LeBron’s impressive run, and there’s no telling when it will finally end.

For now, he’s at home resting his ankle and hoping for a Lakers win. But if Rob Pelinka makes the right moves ahead of the deadline, LeBron might just lead the Lakers to a playoff run in the West.
