LeBron James is all about messaging, and when he sees an opportunity to spin something negative into something positive, he doesn’t waste it.

The term “shut up and dribble” was originally used by political columnists to discredit and disregard the efforts of athletes like LeBron James, who frequently use their platform to raise awareness and condemn civil rights issues plaguing our time.

Back in 2019, he went into detail about why he hated that term so much

“They be telling you guys to.. just shutup & be doctor, or just shutup and be a lawyer, or just shutup and be a teacher, or just shutup & do whatever your occupation is, and I just think that’s unfair to all of us, because we are so much more than what our occupations say or what our name tag says.”

It’s hard to argue with the logic there. Everybody, no matter what role or job they play in society, has a right to stand up for something they believe in.

And now, LeBron is doing just that by filing a trademark for the phrase, which will apparently be used in all types of venues.

LeBron James’ company Uninterrupted has filed a new trademark for: SHUT UP AND DRIBBLE The company claims it will offer “SHUT UP AND DRIBBLE”-branded:

1. Virtual goods such as clothing, sports equipment and toys.

2. Podcasts

3. Motion picture films

4. Clothing

As LeBron James continues to grow older, he is getting more and more involved in the political and social sphere of the country. He’s not afraid to speak his mind anymore and is doing what he can to challenge some of the stigmas that he deems unfair.

While it remains to be seen what will come from this latest move, Bron clearly has some big plans for the future.
