LeBron James has been lauded as the best or second best player in NBA history by a lot of the people that have played the game themselves. The King is, without a doubt, one of the greatest to ever do it, and he’s close to adding another achievement to his name that will further bolster his case as the GOAT.

One of the league’s more untouchable records was thought to be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for the most points in an NBA career. However, James has not only gotten close to it, but he also looks set to break it as early as next season. Sitting at 37,062 career points in the regular season, he is just 1,325 behind the Lakers legend’s 38,387.

And if he keeps up to around his 27 points per game career scoring average, James will take around 50 games next season to reach the record. He might even get it sooner if he has another explosive scoring season like his 2021-22 campaign, he can get it with 10 points per game less than that too. An NBA page on Twitter has posted the run of games during which the King might do it.

Considering how long he has been in the league, LeBron has history with a lot of franchises, but the names that pop out in this list include the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, and the Golden State Warriors. Breaking the record in Madison Square Garden or against the Warriors who beat him three times in the Finals might just be the cherry on the cake for James.

Ultimately, it really doesn’t matter all that much who he does it against, but that he gets there. Despite his advancing age, he has shown no signs of slowing down, and it really seems like just a matter of time for him. While it’s important for the Lakers to play winning basketball this season, this will also likely be the campaign where LeBron James gets his much-deserved flowers for being as brilliant as he has been in his career.
