• LeBron James will be returning for his 21st season in the NBA in 2023-24

• Antonio Daniels believes LeBron will always have unfair expectations placed on him as long as he is an active player because he’s trying to be the GOAT

• James will become the sixth player in NBA history to play a 21st season

LeBron James is one of the greatest players of all time but is still looking to stack accomplishments to make his GOAT case ahead of Michael Jordan undisputed. Due to this, former 11-year NBA veteran Antonio Daniels believes LeBron will always have pressure on his shoulders that no other NBA player will get until he retires.

“As long as LeBron is playing in the NBA, he will be under pressure because he is playing for something different than everybody else. There’s not a player in the league that are playing to be in the GOAT conversation. Nobody. I don’t think a championship enhances anyone’s legacy as much as it does LeBron’s.”

James is running up the hill to become the greatest, but a Michael Jordan-sized boulder keeps blocking his way. Adding another title will make his case much stronger, but will it give him the top spot? In the eyes of some, yes, but in the eyes of most, it is unlikely.

Can LeBron James End His Career As The GOAT?

Honestly speaking, if LeBron wins a title in Year 21 and comes back to win another title in Year 22, the debate is over. Winning titles as a lead contributor when 99.9% of the players that have reached that age retire as benchwarmers on tanking teams is historic in a way we have never seen before in the NBA.

James having a 6-6 Finals record will still be criticized. If he matched MJ’s championship tally while claiming the six additional Finals appearances he has, along with all the all-time records he can earn in the next two seasons, this GOAT case may become undisputed.

The odds of the Lakers winning two more titles are slim, but they’ll be in the running for 2023-24. James needs to lock in and hope to deliver on that goal before he thinks too far in the future. The GOAT debate won’t be over until LeBron hangs his sneakers up, and he still has a chance at making his case much stronger.
