Big man Victor Wembanyama recently made his debut for the San Antonio Spurs against the Dallas Mavericks, and though he struggled to start the game, he did make an impact in the 4th quarter. Wembanyama put up 15 points and 5 rebounds during the game, while also shooting 60% from 3PT range.

After the game, Luka Doncic offered some praise for Wembanyama, stating that the big man “moves like a point guard”.

“He’s going to be amazing. He already is…The way he moves for 7-5, 7-6 is incredible. He moves like a point guard almost, so it’s pretty amazing…He’s going to have a great future and he’s going to be amazing to watch.”

Doncic on Wemby: "He’s going to be amazing. He already is…The way he moves for 7-5, 7-6 is incredible. He moves like a point guard almost, so it’s pretty amazing…He’s going to have a great future and he’s going to be amazing to watch.”

Hopefully, we do one day see Wembanyama become one of the best players in the league. He certainly has the potential and talent to do so, and it is clear that his talent level is generational.

It will be interesting to see how the Spurs end up developing Wembanyama. Based on how he was used against the Mavericks, they are bringing him along slowly, and not forcing him to be a go-to option early. Perhaps it is best to have him acclimate to the NBA before giving him more responsibility, and we’ll see how he does throughout the course of the season.

Victor Wembanyama’s Teammates Have Good Impressions Of Him

There is no doubt that part of a player reaching their potential involves putting in the work themselves and having the right mentality. It seems as though Wembanyama has the right approach, and Spurs center Sandro Mamukelashvili previously shared his great first thoughts about Wembanyama.

“Yeah, he is a great guy. Very down-to-earth,” Mamukelashvili shared his first impressions. “I love how he works hard — he comes very early and does his stuff. Definitely, a professional, and I look forward to playing with him, getting close to him, giving him some assists, and getting some of them. You know, he is a great guy.”

It is good to see Wembanyama has the desire to be great, and is already a professional at a young age. Hopefully, his work ethic will aid him in his development, and perhaps he can become an All-Star as soon as next season.

Victor Wembanyama Has A Lot Of Expectations On His Shoulders

There is a lot of pressure on Wembanyama to be successful. Many expect him to be a legendary player, and one NBA agent even claimed that Wembanyama might become the GOAT of basketball.

“If he’s not hurt, he’ll be the greatest player ever,” said the agent, who has multiple clients playing overseas and in the NBA. “Wembanyama’s physicality, I think people underestimate because he’s so thin. He’s a physically strong dude. When everything opens in the NBA, he’s going to be unstoppable, totally unstoppable. He’ll be the best rim protector in the NBA from day one. And then offensively he’ll be an efficient, unstoppable force from day one.”

Hopefully, we do see Wembanyama match people’s expectations of him. He is clearly a talented player who can help the Spurs win more championships. However, there should also be some patience exercised, as even the best of the best don’t win championships immediately.

As of now, a fair goal for Wembanyama would be to win the Rookie of the Year award. He will certainly have the free reign and the opportunity to do so, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
