The Brooklyn Nets looked like they might get blown up and end up becoming one of the rosters in the league as late as last month. Kevin Durant wanted to leave, Kyrie Irving was looking likely to be moved on, and Ben Simmons hasn’t played in a year, so the situation looked dire. However, they got KD to stay, kept their superstars together, and are now suddenly making moves to bring them closer to a championship.
The turnaround has been extremely quick, just recently, there had been reports of them potentially not being able to make any free agent signings. But things are vastly different when a team becomes a contender once again. Markieff Morris, who was with the Miami Heat last season, was expected to sign with the Nets, and now a deal to that effect has been agreed, as per Shams Charania.

“Free agent Markieff Morris has agreed to a one-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets, pending physical exam, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

The 32-year-old has valuable championship experience from his time with the Los Angeles Lakers. He joined the team right before their run in the Bubble in 2020 and started in some series on their way to winning it all. Having someone that has been there and done that before will be extremely important for the Nets, who are aiming to go all the way themselves this season.
He didn’t end up playing much for the Miami Heat last season, the most notable thing he was involved in was the altercation with MVP Nikola Jokic. His career shooting averages are decent, though, and he is an excellent role player to have on the roster. Morris has averaged nearly 11 points per game for his career, and that sort of contribution could make him an excellent piece for the Nets next season.
