The United States is home to many interesting sports, and as a result, there are a plethora of options for athletes to pursue a career across the nation. In each sport, there are many players who are simply better than the rest.

If we further refine the criteria, every sport also has a couple of guys who are in the GOAT debate. For basketball, it’s Michael Jordan and LeBron James. For football, it’s Tom Brady and Jerry Rice, and so on and so forth.

But what about the greatest athlete of all time across all major sports in the United States? That’s the billion-dollar question.

Michael Jordan Is The Greatest Athlete Of All Time

Morning Consult, a well-known business intelligence company, recently conducted a poll to find out the answer to the question of who is the greatest athlete of all time across all major sports in the United States.

Well, it’s no surprise that it was none other than the Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan who won the poll, with 19% of votes going to him. After Jordan, it was Tom Brady with 12% of the votes. Surprisingly, LeBron James didn’t even crack the top of the list.

The greatest athletes of all time:
*Among U.S. sports fans

1. Michael Jordan: 19%
2. Tom Brady: 12%
3. Muhammad Ali: 8%
4. Babe Ruth: 7%
5. Kobe Bryant: 5%
6. LeBron James: 4%
7. Jim Thorpe: 4%
8. Lionel Messi: 3%
9. Pelé: 3%
10. Serena Williams: 3%https://t.co/M2MIIwriSi pic.twitter.com/ckvCB8bhpO

Speaking of Michael Jordan and LeBron James, the two superstars have always been compared to each other. But when we take a look at the career comparison of MJ and LeBron, the former easily surpasses the latter in almost every category.

That is one of the biggest reasons why even after breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record, LeBron is still not considered the GOAT over Michael Jordan. Unless the King can somehow win a couple of more rings before retiring from the NBA, the narrative around him will always remain the same.

There is no shame in being second to the greatest athlete of all time.
