Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson are two of the most entertaining and iconic guards in NBA history. They both played exciting brands of basketball and could score the ball at will against any defender in front of them.

NBA fans often speculate about what it would be like if two legends played together. But in 1997, after facing a rookie Allen Iverson, Jordan himself said they could work it out if he and the Answer played on the same team.

“Jordan, the NBA’s all-time leader in scoring average and the 1985 Rookie of the Year, later said he could play alongside Iverson even though each likes to look for his own shot first,” AP News wrote in 1997. “‘If he’s hot, I have to feed it to him,’ Jordan said. ‘If we win, great. If we’re losing, we’re going to have to compete for those shots.'”

The thought of Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan alternating and taking turns to attack a defense is a truly scary one. Both players had an elite isolation game and could take just about any defender in a one-on-one situation. Michael Jordan was the NBA’s scoring champion 10 times in his career, while Iverson managed to do it four times, the two of them together would be an instant championship.

Michael Jordan vs. Allen Iverson Stats Head-To-Head

Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson’s NBA careers only overlapped for a short while. Iverson was drafted in the 1996 NBA Draft, at a time when Jordan was at the top of his game. He was special even then though, the rookie Iverson crossed MJ up in an epic moment. They faced each other 13 times and never in the playoffs, with Jordan winning seven of those games.

Considering that it was toward the end of his career, Michael Jordan averaged just 23.5 points per game against Iverson, while a young AI averaged 29.8 points per game in those 13 matchups. Their overall career stats show that Jordan was the better scorer though.

In his NBA career, Michael Jordan averaged 30.1 points while shooting 49.7% from the field and 32.7% from three-point range. These numbers are better across the board than Iverson’s, who averaged 26.7 points on 42.5% from the field and 31.3% from three-point range

Even though MJ and Iverson were both score-first players, any defense having to design against both of them at the same time would have likely just had to give up. If the two had ever played together on those Chicago Bulls teams, Jordan may have won more than six championships, and Iverson would certainly have a few to his name too.
