NBA Analyst Predicts Kevin Durant Might Return to The Golden State Warriors

3 Min Read

After just three seasons with the Warriors, Kevin Durant left the team in 2019, choosing a fresh start in Brooklyn instead of another run with the Dubs.

Questions still remain about the nature of KD’s split from Golden State, and it leaves a sour taste in the mouths of many who think about it.

But over the pasts few months, both Durant and members of the Warriors have had nothing but kind things to say about the other, only lending credence to the idea that a reunion might be on the horizon.

According to ESPN’s Nick Friedell, KD returning to the Warriors might still be in the equation — depending on how things go over the next couple of years.

“I believe over time that [that theory] will gain more traction. Whether or not Kevin does return at some point, we will see. But this has always been a guy who, clearly by what he’s done, is not afraid of trying some new stuff.

I think that all the emotions that brought them together, could potentially bring them together again,”said Friedell.

“And we will find out as everyone’s career plays out, but I know the Warriors would not be opposed to it, and I know having listened to Steph, and Klay, and Draymond through the years, if there is a way to make that happen to not only mend the fences but make one more push to the top of the basketball world, maybe they do try to make it work.”

Durant is currently on the second year of his 4-year, $164 million contract with the Nets. If things go a certain way, KD could opt-out and become a free agent as early as 2022. The trickier question is, would he ever really consider a return to Golden State?

Whether you loved or hated the KD/Warriors dynasty, it’s hard to deny how thrilling the whole experience was.

The Championships, crazy highlights, absolute dominance, and the smiles we saw from that team were just amazing, and it’s really not hard to imagine why Durant would consider going back. Who wouldn’t?

Of course, we’ll just have to see how things play out because, really, there’s no telling what’s in store. We’ve seen some crazy thing happen in the NBA, and this past year especially, so it’s too early to rule anything out with certainty.
