The Golden State Warriors fell to one of the most embarrassing losses in recent memory after the Memphis Grizzlies blew them out by 39 points in Game 5 of the second round. The Warriors trailed by 52 points at the end of the third quarter, with the team looking lost on both offense and defense.

However, the Warriors felt extremely confident coming into the game. This has been a chippy series with suspensions, injuries, and more. It had also been relatively close, after the Warriors stole a 3-1 lead in Game 4 because of a Memphis collapse.

Coming into this game, Steph Curry was talking boldly to reporters when asked how they plan on beating the Grizzlies. Steph’s singular and incredibly cocky response was by saying ‘whoop that trick‘. Those words are haunting him now as fans are attacking him for dismissing their opponents before a historic loss.

Trash talking if you fail to back it up never ends well for an NBA player. Curry would have received some hate for this even if the Warriors lost by a few points, let alone 39. Ideally, GSW manages to use this loss as motivation when the Grizz come back to Golden State for Game 6.

The Warriors just need one win to advance to the Conference Finals to face the winner of Phoenix vs. Dallas. However, the Grizzlies will be feeling a surge of momentum that they need to capitalize on when they go to the Chase Center. If Memphis can bring in a Game 7 at home, they will have a good chance of making history.

However, this Warriors team is more experienced in these situations than any other team in the NBA. They have blown a 3-1 lead before, they have come back from a 3-1 deficit before. They will hope that this is a series they can put away to bed in the quest to regain their championship glory.
