The Los Angeles Lakers have had a subpar season, and it is clear that the team was far from being a championship-caliber team. Their lack of success resulted in the firing of Frank Vogel.
After concluding interviews with a variety of candidates, the Los Angeles Lakers ended up hiring Darvin Ham, who was working for the Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant coach.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has recently revealed that one of Darvin Hame’s “most important directives” will be to find a way to incorporate Russell Westbrook next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis:
Ham will be charged with returning the Lakers to the postseason after a disastrous 33-49 season that cost Frank Vogel his job. One of Ham’s most important directives: finding a way to incorporate future Hall of Fame guard Russell Westbrook into the franchise’s framework with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It was a significant subject of every Lakers coaching interview in the process, sources said.
Russell Westbrook clearly did not thrive in Frank Vogel’s system, but perhaps he will do better under a new coach. He has previously expressed an interest in running things back with LeBron James and Anthony Davis:
That’s the plan. But nothing is promised. You kind of have to take it one day at a time each day. Like I’ve said all season long, you’ve got to play the cards you’re dealt. Yes, we want to be able to see what that looks like, what that entails over the course of an 82-game season, but we’re not sure if that’s guaranteed either. So I just hope we get the chance to be able to do something.
It remains to be seen how successful the Los Angeles Lakers are next season. This season isn’t encouraging, but perhaps the Los Angeles Lakers’ big 3 will be able to develop better chemistry and perform better as a unit next season.
Russell Westbrook is one of the greatest point guards of all time, and there’s no doubt that he has received a lot of hate over the last year. Hopefully, we see him shine once again next season under Darvin Ham, and prove the haters wrong.
