The Philadelphia 76ers are tired of falling short when it comes to the NBA championship, and this summer will try to make the right moves to assemble the best possible team in a stacked Eastern Conference.
In recent days, they’ve been linked with a former James Harden teammate that could give them that extra they need to compete for the title next year. PJ Tucker has been a very coveted player around the league recently, but the Sixers look like the strongest candidates to acquire his services this offseason.
Following a tumultuous 2021/22 campaign where the Ben Simmons saga took a lot of attention, they’re ready to have a fresh start and bringing Tucker in could be a good beginning. It seems like everybody on the team is on board with this, including Joel Embiid, who is reportedly pushing for this move.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Embiid has been very supportive of this potential move.
The Sixers’ forthcoming strong pursuit of P.J. Tucker, league sources say, has the strong backing of star center Joel Embiid.
I reported Wednesday that Philadelphia is regarded as the league’s clear favorite to sign Tucker if the 37-year-old is indeed leaving Miami this summer after declining his $7.4 million player option with the Heat for next season to opt for free agency.
Tucker can be great in Philadelphia, as he was in Milwaukee when they won the championship last year. He has the experience, is a very annoying defender that can match up with almost every superstar in the East, and will definitely give his everything to the Sixers.
This is a great opportunity for Doc Rivers’ team, but they won’t be the only ones trying to land Tucker. Still, it seems like only a catastrophe will stop Embiid from having Tucker as his teammate.
