Joel Embiid is well-known as a player who draws a lot of fouls. Part of that is due to his dominance in the post, and he’s so physical that defenders are often forced to foul him. However, some have criticized the calls that Joel Embiid gets from the officials.

One of those people that has spoken out against Joel Embiid’s treatment by the officials is Raptors coach Nick Nurse. Nurse claimed that “nobody can guard” Embiid if the officials will allow him to “run you over”, and he also complained about Embiid’s elbows.

Nick Nurse not happy with the whistle on Embiid. “If we’re [Raptors] legal defensively, we’ve gotta have a call, or we don’t have a chance. Nobody can guard that guy if they’re gonna let him run you over.” Points out beating him to spots & wild elbows.”

Most recently, Joel Embiid led the Philadelphia 76ers to a win over the Toronto Raptors, hitting a game-winner in overtime. After the game, Joel Embiid threw shade at Nick Nurse and the Toronto Raptors, pointing to the fact that people in the Raptors organization complained about the officiating, and saying that he hopes “they were happy tonight”. It is clear that Joel Embiid can win without the use of free throws, and he came up big for the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 3.

They were complaining so much about officiating, so I hope they were happy tonight

At this point, it seems likely that the Philadelphia 76ers will win the series against the Toronto Raptors. No team has ever come back down from 3-0, and it seems improbable for the Toronto Raptors to do so.

The Philadelphia 76ers are widely viewed as contenders this season and for good reason. Joel Embiid finished as a finalist for the MVP award, and many believe that he should be the winner this season. Hopefully, we see him lead the 76ers on a deep playoff run, and perhaps we’ll see him finally get to the Finals this season.
