As one of the best and most consistent wing scorers in the league this season, Kyle Kuzma has been the hottest name on the trade market lately. With the Wizards once again stuck in no man’s land and Kuzma set to be a free agent after this season, there has long been a belief that this will be his last run with the D.C. team.

But in a conversation with The Athletic’s John Robbins, Kuzma spoke candidly about his future with the Wizards and gave fans an idea about what matters to him heading into an uncertain summer.

For sure. One hundred percent. They showed me love. They have allowed me to have a platform to show my game and show the league I’m not just a role player. I’m someone that’s arriving right now. That’s the biggest thing for me.

I want to keep elevating. Having a leadership position, having somewhere where I’m developing and playing my game and my role and I’m getting better every single game — that’s what I care about.

Kyle Kuzma knows the Wizards are hoping to re-sign him this offseason.

The 27-year-old forward could see a future in D.C. too, he tells @JoshuaBRobbins.

“For anybody to want to keep you long term, that’s a blessing."

It’s no secret that the Wizards are hoping to keep Kuzma around for the long haul, and the Rui Hachimura trade was only further proof of their intentions to secure Kuzma long-term.

Kyle Kuzma May Not Re-Sign With Washington

As much as the Wizards hope to keep Kuz, nobody knows how things will play out in the offseason when the young sharpshooter has offers from multiple teams across the league.

They (the Wizards) really want to re-sign him (Kuzma), and it sounds like he really doesn’t want to re-sign there. He wants to leave. It sounds like he’s definitely dead set on leaving.

If they were smart, they’d make the move (to trade him). Everyone is calling.

With Rui Hachimura gone, it seems like the Wizards have decided to hold onto Kuzma and risk losing him for nothing as a free agent. Kuz sounds receptive to the idea, but there are rumblings that he wants to shine in a bigger market.

Averaging 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, Kuz is having a career year and is finally showing his true worth in the NBA. Let’s just hope that his game translates well wherever he lands next.
