Luka Doncic finally has some help in Dallas in the aftermath of the Kyrie Irving trade. Together, the duo has limitless potential offensively and they bring the Mavericks up another tier in the deep and competitive Western Conference.

Many would argue that, even with Irving, the Mavericks still don’t have enough to win the title — but they might not be done tweaking the roster yet.

The front office is not finished exploring trade options to further reshape and upgrade the roster around 23-year-old franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic, a person familiar with the Mavericks’ thinking said less than an hour after news of the Irving trade broke.

The Mavs don’t have a whole lot of tradeable pieces left, but sources claim they are open to trading both Tim Hardaway Jr. and Christian Wood ahead of the February 9th trade deadline.

Dallas has discussed options to move Tim Hardaway Jr., multiple people familiar with the Mavericks’ approach pre-Irving said. Though he can boost the offense when in a shooting rhythm, Hardaway’s contract is viewed as a long-term investment that doesn’t justify his streaky high-volume production while limiting the Mavericks’ future financial flexibility.

Christian Wood has also been a frequently discussed candidate for the Mavericks to shop.

With Irving and Luka, the Mavericks have a star tandem that puts them squarely in the realm of title contention. The question is, is that going to be enough to put them over the top?

What Can We Expect From The New-Look Mavericks This Season?

At the time of writing, the Mavericks rank 6th in the West with a 28-26 record overall. They’ve been mediocre all season with inconsistency around every corner.

Irving will obviously not bring consistency to Dallas, but he might just be good enough to help them reach new heights in the West.

Kyrie Irving is said to be “ecstatic” about the trade to Dallas Mavericks and “looking forward” to joining forces with Luka Doncic, a league source tells @NBAonTNT @BleacherReport

Depending on what other moves the Mavericks make, they could come out of this trade season as the most improved team in the league.

Beyond that, however, it’s impossible to tell how things will play out. As excited and committed as Kyrie seems now, we’ve all seen how quickly he can change his tune when things aren’t his way.
