Luka Doncic is demonstrating he is the real deal in the NBA and he will be for a long time, as long as his body helps him. The Slovenian player has been shocking the world since he made it to the league, becoming one of the most promising players in the association right now. On draft night, the only people who saw him as a future star were the Dallas Mavericks and they didn't miss the chance to bring him in.
The results are now visible. Luka won the ROY award last year, is set to be named Most Improved Player this campaign and is taking his Mavs to compete against one of the favorites to the title, the Los Angeles Clippers. He's come a long way, especially when you remember all the bad things that were said about him before and after draft night.
Sports analysts like Colin Cowherd, Skip Bayless or Stephen A. Smith all had strong things to say about Luka, trying to play down the kid, who came from ruling European basketball with Real Madrid. He won the second-best tournament in the world with the Spanish team, being the MVP when he was 19-year-old.
A compilation of all the comments these analysts said have taken major relevance now, remembering how bad they believed Doncic was going to be. They talked about his lack of athleticism, they talked about the differences of European and NBA basketball, they compared Luka to other European players and the conclusion was always the same, he wouldn't be a good NBA player.
Well, he's proving everybody wrong with his performances. Doncic is the real deal and it's about time people start to recognize that. The only good thing we can hear in the video is Chris Broussard saying one scout told him Doncic was a mix of Larry Bird and Steve Nash. At least that wasn't so crazy.
Now all these guys talk about Doncic as one of the future faces of the league and a potential candidate for GOAT talk. This kid is that special and he always was that good. However, they have to learn the hard way.
