Patrick Beverley left the NBA this summer to join HAPOEL Tel Aviv in Israel to rediscover playing in a starring role after being boxed into being an NBA role-player. Going to Israel with his NBA fame has led Beverley to become one of the biggest basketball stars in the country, prompting him to claim he relates with LeBron James due to the attention he gets on the ‘Pat Bev Pod.’
“I know how LeBron feels. I leave games and the guys that I play against want pictures and the coaches that I play against want pictures. The fans that I go against that boo me, I leave and it’s 30 kids outside and they all want pictures. That’s every country we go to.”
“What I’m doing is appreciated but to have kids and other players and coaches from competing teams to be like, ‘Hey Pat, I’m sorry bro but I need this f***ing pic.’ Say less, it’s been a vibe. I know how LeBron feels now, seriously.”

Beverley averaged 6.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists last season for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks, entering this summer as a free agent. He’s been on six different teams since 2021, which made it clear to PatBev that his value in the NBA has declined considerably from when he was considered a part of the Clippers core a couple of years ago.
Beverley is currently a teammate of two former NBA players in Tel Aviv – Ish Wainwright and former Clippers’ teammate Jonathan Motley. Their season is expected to start in October.
Patrick Beverley Made A Choice To Leave The NBA
Many NBA players refuse to let themselves fall out of contention for an NBA roster spot by taking months off their career or spending a season in the G League. Players like John Wall and Isaiah Thomas have been angling for roster spots in the NBA but have also elected to not play professional basketball anywhere else.
Beverley had an NBA role as a plus-defender and a floor-spacer but chose to leave the NBA while he still had hoop ability left in him to play a No. 1 role internationally.
“This is what people don’t understand, I get to play basketball. I used to put the ball in the hole, right? In my European career, I was MVP of the same league I’m going back to. Obviously, you get to the NBA and have to play different roles, but now I go back to a role where it’s seven seconds to go, give me the ball, and watch me rock. Isolation step back, I get to hoop.”
He averaged 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds ,and 3.4 assists over 12 seasons in the NBA. He played for the Rockets, Clippers, Timberwolves, Lakers, Bulls, 76ers, and Bucks over his career, being a regular Playoff presence outside of playing for the Bulls in 2022.
