Unlike most other professional sports leagues today, the NBA isn’t afraid to change its rules if it means bringing a better overall experience for the players and fans.

For most, the coach’s challenge has been a great addition to the rules, as it holds refs accountable, allows for mistakes to be rectified, and can make the game far more interesting.

But for Raptors coach Nick Nurse, the coach’s challenge is something that does more harm than good.

Nick Nurse asked he would change one rule in the NBA…

He says…the challenge rule.

Says he’d get rid of it completely.

While Nurse has so far refused to elaborate on why he wants the challenge rule eliminated, we can only assume that he doesn’t like how much it can slow the game down, especially in the last seconds of a game.

Additionally, most challenges are wasted because coaches often use them on plays that do not get overturned.

Funnily enough, Nurse was actually the first coach ever to use a coach’s challenge in a game and, predictably, the call did not go his way.

Have The NBA’s Modern Rules Been Good For The Game?

Over the past few years, the NBA has done a lot to implement some big changes. Besides adding the play-in tournament, the league also recently tweaked their foul rules with hopes of adding some more excitement to the ever-evolving sport.

“The game needs it,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said on the new foul rules that punish offensive foul-baiting. “If we’re making calls in the NBA that would literally start fights in a pickup game, a fight is going to ensue. If we’re making those calls in the NBA, when we couldn’t get through a pickup game, then we’re doing something wrong.”

With so many things being changed and adjusted, it’s no surprise that some people are beginning to speak out. As great as the NBA is, and has been, it’s obvious that not all of its ideas are going to stick.

In the case of the coach’s challenge, however, Nick Nurse probably shouldn’t hold his breath waiting for that one to be discounted.
