Among the countless trends and traditions in the NBA, none have risen to popularity faster than the practice of ‘load management.’ Today, more than ever before, stars are willing and even encouraged to sit out particularly brutal stretches of the schedule.

At first, it started out as players resting on back-to-backs, but it has evolved into something more, and many fans want it to stop.

One such fan, who also happens to be former NBA Champion Richard Jefferson, took his grievances to the set of NBA Today, where he went off in a passionate rant about the subject.

“We want you to do what’s been done over the course of the game of basketball. I was fortunate to come in in 2001. There was one trainer, there wasn’t a traveling masus, and there wasn’t all of these amenities. We now have teams paying millions of dollars to sports science. “

Jefferson got a little personal with his next but and explained why he found it important during his career to play as many games as he can.

“For Christmas my parents got me a ticket to go watch the San Antonio Spurs cause David Robinson was my favorite player. One ticket. My dad who worked security and rubbed floors and all of that stuff, he used to drop me off at the game and I went in there by myself because my family couldn’t afford to come to the game. So every day that I was on the court I remembered my father, I remember having one ticket and being there and all the families and all the people that were just like me. If David Robinson wouldn’t have played in that game, I get emotional thinking about it because I got to stand next to him in Game 6 of the NBA Finals when he was about to go off into the sunset and tell him he was my favorite player.”

Fans and analysts have spoken out against load management before, but neither the league nor any of the teams have actually done anything about it.

Instead, hopeful fans who spent their hard-earned money to watch the best players often have their experience ruined for no good reason at all.

NBA Pressured To Take A Stand Against Load Management

Whether or not the NBA will take action against load management is still up for debate, but there might be some things they can do to make everybody happy.

Either way, load management is a highly controversial idea, and it will be interesting to see which way the NBA decides to go as it becomes increasingly coming among teams across the association.
