The Golden State Warriors currently boast the NBA’s best record (8-1) after dominating the young Houston Rockets on Sunday night. The Dubs are doing a terrific job this season, taking every game seriously and demonstrating they aren’t the irregular team from the past two seasons.
They are the real deal now and plenty of fans are excited to see how this team turned things around after two complex campaigns. Given their good results, plenty of people around the NBA community has named them the favorites to win the 2022 NBA championship.
In a season where the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks are struggling to get things going and the Brooklyn Nets miss Kyrie Irving, Steve Kerr and his pupils are still solid, beating their rivals and only conceding one loss through nine games.
This has led Stephen A. Smith to pick them as his ‘official’ favorites to win the 2022 NBA championship. The ESPN analyst is known for changing his favorite teams every week, but this time he went further, used the word ‘officially,’ sealing the deal for the Dubs.
“It is official,” Smith told his “First Take” co-host Molly Qerim. “I’m picking the Golden State Warriors to win the championship. Let me say this to you — Gary Payton, much love to his son, he had a couple of highlight plays last night. I’m a huge fan of Jordan Poole, Damion Lee, these boys, [Juan] Toscano[-Anderson].”

Smith also lauded the coaching staff for taking care of things properly after the team made some moves in the offseason. He also pointed out that the additions the roster will get in the future will boost their status as title favorites.
“Steve Kerr is just doing a fabulous job, him and this coaching staff,” Smith said. “If Klay Thompson and James Wiseman come back, they winning the chip.”
Smith had previously said if Klay Thompson returned, the Warriors would win the title. Now, he’s convinced that this team can compete for the Larry O’Brien trophy and no other squad in the association seems to be good enough to beat them.
The Warriors knew this was revenge season and they’re taking things personally. Stephen Curry is playing like he only knows, Jordan Poole is contributing on the offense, Draymond Green is Draymond Green and the rest of the team is doing their job to take this team to the top again.
