One of the biggest talking points this week was the Los Angeles Lakers getting eliminated from playoff contention, thus ending their season. A team that was tipped to win the NBA championship, or at least make a run to the NBA Finals, the Lakers were poor across the season, and now they won’t even be in the NBA playoffs. The whole world has been poking fun at the Lakers, including the NBA on TNT crew.

During a Thursday broadcast, the NBA on TNT crew mocked the Los Angeles Lakers for getting eliminated from the NBA playoffs with a lot of jokes, including the oft-mentioned Cancun reference. In a photoshopped picture, LeBron James (wearing a ‘Not A GM’ T-Shirt) sits on a floatie, Russell Westbrook rides a jet ski, and Anthony Davis, Carmelo Anthony, Snoop Dogg, Will Ferrell, and Rob Pelinka ride a banana boat.

The Los Angeles Lakers squad was put together during the offseason to contend for an NBA championship. But the Lakers underperformed massively, and they never looked close to being a championship team. And in the end, injuries, poor team chemistry, and extremely weak defensive performances ended up costing the Lakers a chance to compete in the playoffs.

There is a lot of uncertainty about the Los Angeles Lakers. In the offseason, the Lakers are expected to massively overhaul their squad. But that might not be very easy. Russell Westbrook has a massive $47 million player option heading into the offseason. If he activates that, the Lakers will find it extremely difficult to find a team willing to take him.

But all hope might not be lost, as the Charlotte Hornets reportedly have some interest in bringing in Russell Westbrook. If the option to get rid of Westbrook is there, the Lakers will do everything in their power to make sure it happens, in order to protect their team going forward.
