NBA Rumors: Golden State Warriors Targeted Dennis Schroder Prior To His Deal With Boston Celtics

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors didn’t make the playoffs last season, but perhaps they will be able to this season. Klay Thompson should be fully healthy at some point next season and if members of their young core such as James Wiseman and Jordan Poole improve next season, they could be right back in the playoff mix.

The Warriors have acquired some solid veterans during the offseason, adding some experienced shooters such as Otto Porter Jr. and Nemanja Bjelica to the roster. They also brought back fan-favorite Andre Iguodala for his defense and leadership. Another name that they were reportedly interested in was Dennis Schroder, who recently signed the mid-level exception with the Boston Celtics.

Wes Goldberg of the Mercury Times revealed that the Golden State Warriors were interested in signing Schroder, but it seems as though he decided to go with the Boston Celtics instead.

According to a league source, the Warriors did inquire about Dennis Schroder.

But the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard on Tuesday signed with the Boston Celtics for the full taxpayer mid-level exception.”

There is no question that another veteran could have helped the Golden State Warriors, and that Schroder’s ability to create offense for himself would have been helpful for the team. The Golden State Warriors’ defense was great last season, but oftentimes, they struggled offensively. Dennis Schroder would have given them another scoring option next to Stephen Curry.

Most of the attention on Schroder during this free agency period was due to him missing out on a lot of money this offseason. However, despite the fact that he only signed for the mid-level exception with the Celtics, Dennis Schroder is still a solid, starting-caliber point guard. Hopefully, Dennis Schroder is able to build up his value during his season in Boston and show the detractors why they were wrong about him.
