The Golden State Warriors have plenty of options at hand for the 2020-21 season. They’re going to own a top-5 Draft pick plus having Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson back at full strength. Still, their next move isn’t entirely clear at this point.
Some think they could trade away Andrew Wiggins, while others claim they’re going to use that 1st-round pick as a trade asset for another All-Star.
Others, however, think the odd man out should be no other than former Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green. And, according to Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report, the Phoenix Suns would be a solid destination:
“Spacing would be an issue with a Deandre Ayton-Draymond Green frontcourt (not to mention Ricky Rubio at point guard), but this deal would give the Phoenix Suns the defensive backbone they lack. Though Ayton improved as a sophomore, he’s still not the kind of anchor Phoenix needs to reach the playoffs in the West. Green could cover for Ayton and act as a secondary playmaker on offense, freeing up Devin Booker to focus solely on scoring,” Hughes claimed.
The trade would also include a lottery-protected 2022 firs-round pick from the Warriors. The Dubs, on the other hand, would get a much-needed boost of youth and solid defenders on Kelly Oubre Jr and Mikal Bridges.
If the Warriors land another star after trading their 1st-round pick this season, a core featuring the Splash Brothers, Wiggins, and Oubre or Bridges coming off the bench would certainly help them contend for many years to come, while Green could finally turn the Suns around as an outspoken, hardnosed leader that will tolerate no failure.
