The Blockbuster Trade Idea: Boston Celtics Can Create A Superteam With Victor Oladipo And Myles Turner

5 Min Read

The Indiana Pacers performed admirably this season by going and making the NBA playoffs without Victor Oladipo. Oladipo returned in time for the Playoffs after an entire season missed due to injury, but he clearly needed time to readjust. The Pacers did not have much of a chance against the Miami Heat in Round 1 and lost in 4 games. Looking towards next season, they have a promising team built around All-Star Domantas Sabonis.

But they could manage to make some trades to ship off Oladipo who is coming off an injury along with Myles Turner, who might not get the minutes he needs thanks to the growth of Sabonis. Boston has a ton of attractive pieces to offer, and their core group could certainly benefit from the arrival of Oladipo and Turner.

Here is a blockbuster deal that would send Victor Oladipo and Myles Turner to Boston.

Trade Package: Gordon Hayward, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, 14th First-Round Pick, 20th First-Round Pick for Victor Oladipo and Myles Turner

The Boston Celtics Superteam

This deal makes a ton of sense for Boston. Marcus Smart is the most valuable piece in the trade offering because he is one of the best defensive players in the NBA who can hit the outside shot. Smart is also a tough competitor who can guard 3 positions exceptionally well and builds his game off of hustle and playing hard every night. In many ways, Smart is a coach’s dream. Hayward is also a nice piece for the team as he averaged 17.5 PPG and 6.7 RPG this season, while Williams put up 5.2 PPG and 4.4 RPG.

But a lineup of Kemba Walker, Victor Oladipo, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Myles Turner is destined to make the NBA Finals. Oladipo is the type of player that would fit in any system because he plays well on both ends of the floor and doesn’t necessarily need the ball to be effective. Turner is a modern NBA big man who can space the floor and also defend the rim. This Celtics team would usurp the likes of the Milwaukee Bucks who rely on Giannis and the Miami Heat who can’t match Boston’s talent.

For the sake of a chance to finally make an NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics should pull the trigger and acquire both of Indiana’s stars.

The Pacers Rebuild With Marcus Smart And Domantas Sabonis

The Pacers Rebuild

The Indiana Pacers have a nice squad, but there are doubts that Oladipo can be the franchise player for them. Unlike Boston who have Jayson Tatum, Oladipo might not be an MVP quality player to lead them to the Promised Land. But they do have Domantas Sabonis who is exceptionally talented as a modern NBA big man and should build around him. Marcus Smart would immediately start for the team and bring All-Defensive capabilities to the Pacers. Robert Williams is also a productive big man off the bench who can play solid minutes with his rebounding and rim protection.

Gordon Hayward is the key because he might rediscover his All-Star form. Hayward suffered the nastiest of injuries two seasons ago and has slowly improved his production. If things continue this way, Hayward could be an All-Star again this year. A lineup with Malcolm Brogdon, Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward, T.J. Warren, and Domantas Sabonis is still a playoff team and might be better without Oladipo and Turner. Not to mention, Indiana gets both the 14th and 20th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft to also add some quality role players.

Indiana are not really going anywhere with Oladpio and Turner, so adding two productive starters and two first-round picks makes a ton of sense for the Pacers.
